Lucky lament

My doggie's been sick for a couple weeks. Vets haven't pinned it down, but have managed to separate me from huge sums of cash. I wrote a sad column about it. Lots of nice strangers sent me in stories of their own pet tragedies.

Here's an excerpt of one of the sweetest stories:

My dog Scooter was diagnosed with Cancer in 7/03 and we were told he had 8 months to live. I was devastated. However, it is now ONE YEAR past his "expiration date" and he is still with us. He is a little demented and odd, but still hanging in there.

Nothing like a good doggie story. Anyhow, the good news is that not a few hours later, I got the dreaded biospy results that I was sure would spell Lucky's doom. Turns out it's not cancerous. It's very good news. But Lucky's going to be bummed that the special guilt diet of chicken and cheese is going to end.
